R. Sarrat et al., PECULIARITIES OF THE THYROID-GLAND STRUCTURE (WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE PRESENCE OF GANGLION-CELLS), Histology and histopathology, 9(1), 1994, pp. 95-103
We have performed a study on the comparative structure of the thyroid
gland in several species of mammals (rat, cat, dog, lamb, pig, cow, an
d man). We have described the structural differences among them, payin
g special attention to the distribution of connective tissue, the intr
afollicular and parafollicular cells. In the thyroid gland, we can con
firm the existence of nerve cells, either isolated or forming vegetati
ve ganglions in the interfollicular spaces, in some of the species stu
died, especially in the rat and the dog.
