Abstract
The effect of glass composition on precipitation of CuCl crystallites has been investigated for CuCl doped borosilicate and aluminoborosilic ate glasses. After annealing at various temperatures, CuCl crystallite s are observed in the glasses, the matrices of which are separated by spinodal decomposition and have a borate rich phase with high connecti vity. Furthermore, most Cu+ ions are distributed in the borate rich ph ase of these glasses. On the other hand, for glasses with a lower tend ency for phase separation, CuCl crystallites are not precipitated.
