L. Spotl et al., CA IONS STABILIZE THE BINDING OF COMPLEMENT FACTOR IC3B TO THE PSEUDOHYPHAL FORM OF CANDIDA-ALBICANS, Infection and immunity, 62(3), 1994, pp. 1125-1127
The pseudohyphal form of Candida albicans is able to bind iC3b. This m
ay play an important role in the pathogenesis of disseminated candidia
sis and, in particular, in adherence to endothelium, protection agains
t complement action, and iron acquisition from erythrocytes. Here we r
eport that Ca2+ ions are required to maintain stable binding of iC3b t
o C. albicans pseudohyphae.
