A new methodology for calculation of acid-base dissociation constants
of monoprotic and diprotic compounds from absorptiometric data and pH
measurements was developed. The equations derived for monoprotic compo
unds enable calculation of their pK Values even in those cases where t
he molar absorptivities of the acid or basic species involved are unkn
own; those for diprotic compounds allow the easy calculation of acid-b
ase dissociation constants however similar they may be. The applicabil
ity and limitations of the proposed methodology were studied in simula
ted processes. Finally, the new methodology was used to calculate the
acid-base dissociation constant for maleimide dioxime at several wavel
engths and with goad results.
