A single step reaction of precursor oxides is shown to synthesize succ
essfully the new superconducting HgBa2 CuO4+X in pellets. The specimen
s prepared with this method exhibit a very sharp resistive transition
with T = 95K and a very weak magnetic field dependence in the resistiv
ity. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and the estimation of the ir
reversibility line are also reported. Our results indicate that irreve
rsibility line is located at temperature higher than in Bi-based syste
ms.
