Abstract
Themes central to sex-role socialization are traced, along with the pr ocesses by which dominance and female deference are developed. Gender differences in parent-child interactions, peer-group relations, classr oom settings, children's observations of the marital dyad, and message s from television are examined. The link between sex-role socializatio n and the etiology and maintenance of wife abuse is discussed.
