Abstract
In an investigation of gender-based differences in autonomy and relate dness in the mother-toddler dyad, gender-specific stylistic difference s were found in mother's sensitivity toward their toddlers. In the con text of greater sensitivity, boys appeared to control the flow of inte ractions (initiation and maintenance) to a greater extent than did gir ls.
