In this work the fundamental problem of thermoelasticity for an infini
te spherically symmetric space is solved using the method of potential
s. The differential equations for the potential are solved using the o
perational method together with the Laplace transform techniques to ob
tain the solution in the form of an infinite series of functions. The
solution obtained is valid for all times. Numerical computations for t
he temperature and stress distributions are carried out and represente
d graphically.
