Abstract
A titanium alloy was coated with a thin layer of synthetic diamond by chemical vapor deposition methods, achieving exceptional adhesion. Sci entific and technological opportunities exist for the development of d iamond-coated metal alloys and for a better understanding of adhesion mechanisms of hard, brittle coatings. An indentation method of wide ap plicability for measuring the adhesion of such coatings is discussed.
