Ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity of binary mixtures of aceto
nitrile (AN) and propylene carbonate (PC) are presented between 25 and
45-degrees-C. Adiabatic compressibility (K(s)), excess adiabatic comp
ressibility K(s)E, excess viscosity (eta(E)) and excess volume (V(E))
are calculated. The activation energies for viscous flow for AN and PC
interpreted by the activated rate process revealed relatively stronge
r molecular association in PC. Excess functions while examined as a fu
nction of mole fraction of PC (x(PC)) are found to be negative over th
e whole composition range of AN-PC mixtures between 25 and 45-degrees-
C. This has been taken to account for the strong dipole-dipole interac
tions in An-PC mixtures.
