The theory of electron correlation phenomena is reviewed and used to i
nterpret the transport, thermal, or magnetic properties Of V2O3, LaNiO
3 and Fe3O4 systems, each of which to a greater or lesser degree displ
ays correlation effects. A rationale is provided for interpreting the
various types of phase transitions encountered in the vanadium sesquio
xide and magnetite host systems and to show why these arc altered by s
mall compositional variations.
