We report a case of Mycobacterium marinum facial sporotrichoid infecti
on in an otherwise healthy 2-year-old child, probably acquired through
contact with pets in an aquarium. The M. marinum isolate was suscepti
ble to clarithromycin, and the child was successfully treated with ora
l antibiotic therapy. This unusual case emphasizes the importance of a
thorough history in the evaluation of a patient with chronic sporotri
choid skin lesions.
