A. Svatos et T. Macek, THE RATE OF ECDYSTEROID PRODUCTION IN SUSPENSION-CULTURED CELLS OF THE FERN PTERIDIUM-AQUILINUM, Phytochemistry, 35(3), 1994, pp. 651-654
The rate of production of three ecdysteroids, ponasterone, ecdysone an
d ecdysterone, by a suspension culture of cells of bracken fern, Pteri
dium aquilinum, was investigated. The highest rate of production was b
etween the fourth and 13th day of cultivation, and the concentration o
f ecdysteroids in the cells (0.02% of fresh wt) was higher in comparis
on to the original plant. Ponasterone was the major compound identifie
d. A potential value of this culture for a study of the biosynthesis o
f ecdysteroids is discussed.
