Abstract
The iridoid content of Fontanesia phillyreoides was investigated by re verse phase chromatography of the ethanolic extract of the aerial part s. Five known iridoid compounds, i.e. loganic acid, secologanoside, se cologanic acid, secologanol and swertiamarin, besides verbascoside wer e isolated. In addition, two novel secoiridoids, named 5-hydroxysecolo ganol and fontanesioside, were isolated and characterized. Their struc tures were determined by NMR spectroscopy and by chemical evidence.
