Abstract
Four new sesquiterpene alkaloids, emarginatine-C, emarginatine-D, emar ginatine-E and emarginatinine, were isolated from Maytenus emarginata. Emarginatine-E and emarginatinine showed cytotoxicity against human K B cells (ED(50) = 2.5 and 2.1 mu g ml(-1), respectively). The structur al determinations and activity relationships of these new compounds, a nd of emarginatine-A and emarginatine-B are discussed.
