Rj. Steingard et al., ADJUNCTIVE CLONAZEPAM TREATMENT OF TIC SYMPTOMS IN CHILDREN WITH COMORBID TIC DISORDERS AND ADHD, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 33(3), 1994, pp. 394-399
The treatment of seven children and adolescents with a tic disorder an
d concomitant attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is revie
wed. Symptoms of ADHD were treated successfully with clonidine; howeve
r, patients experienced persistent tics. The patients were treated wit
h the adjunctive use of clonazepam. The addition of clonazepam resulte
d in a further decrease in tic frequency and severity without affectin
g the coexisting ADHD symptoms. These cases suggest that clonazepam ma
y be a useful adjunctive pharmacological intervention in treating tics
in children with comorbid ADHD.
