Abstract
Designs of inexpensive slab gel apparatus and gel dryer are described. The two units can be assembled at a cost of around Rs. 1000/- from lo cally available materials. The polyacrylamide gel clectrophoresis on t his slab gel unit and their drying on indegenously made gel dryer show ed similar results as could be obtained with commercial apparatus. Thi s can be used for discontinuous, native, denatured, gradient electroph oresis and isoelectric focusing of proteins.
