Abstract
Awareness of the importance of social science research in health educa tion and the control of tropical diseases is increasing. This article outlines the current status of social science research, highlighting w ays in which an understanding of indigenous beliefs and perceptions ab out illnesses can facilitate their treatment in tropical regions.
