The use of digested sludge from a wastewater purification plant, prope
rly mixed with soil, provided good growth of pea and broad bean specie
s, increased germination and better yield than that with inorganic fer
tilizer. Additions of cadmium, copper and lead to digested sludge part
ially reduced the germination of the seeds but did not cause accumulat
ion of toxic elements in the edible parts of the plants.
