Brains from 44 sheep and 43 cattle with CNS clinical signs not due to
rabies virus infection were collected from diagnostic institutes throu
ghout Hungary. The brains were examined for histological lesions diagn
ostic of scrapie/bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and all were f
ound to be negative. These findings confirm that Hungary remains free
of scrapie and BSE.
