Abstract
The influence of parental origin, litter size and sex on the occurrenc e Of splayleg was studied in 294 splayleg-affected litters with a tota l of 3,166 newborn piglets. Higher incidence of the disease was found in the litters sired by the SL-1 synthetic boar line, originating from crossings between German Landrace and Duroc breeds. At the same time, smaller litters were found more affected than the large ones (P<0.01) . A higher number of affected males among splayleg piglets was found, but it did not reach the level of significance (P<0.05).
