F. Miani et al., MECHANOSYNTHESIS OF IRON CARBIDES AT COMPOSITION FE75C25 - MODELING OF THE PROCESS KINETICS, Journal of alloys and compounds, 204(1-2), 1994, pp. 151-156
The mechanosynthesis of iron carbides, at composition Fe75C25, was inv
estigated with regard to modeling of the kinetic behavior. Experiments
were performed in a vibratory ball mill exploring different milling c
onditions. Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were use
d to characterize the ball-milled powders. The iron conversion kinetic
s, investigated with some 90 samples, is found to follow a sigmoid-typ
e curve. A correlation is also established between the time at which t
he maximum iron conversion rate is obtained and the ball-to-powder wei
ght ratio.
