Abstract
In this paper, the luminescence properties of CaBiVO5 and CaB.VO5:Eu3 are reported. At 4.2 K CaBiVO5 shows an efficient yellow emission wit h an emission maximum at 540 nm; the corresponding excitation band has its maximum at 300 nm. At 300 K the luminescence is practically quenc hed. The luminescence processes are discussed in terms of a bismuth-va nadate center as observed in YVO4:Bi3+. Discrepancies with existing th eories are explained by a small amount of Ca/Bi disorder.
