Pc. Levett et al., STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RESPIRATORY INHIBITION BY ROTENOIDS - IS AN INTACT B C RING-SYSTEM ESSENTIAL/, Bioorganic & medicinal chemistry letters, 4(3), 1994, pp. 505-508
Guided by structural comparisons between the classical electron transp
ort inhibitor rotenone and other compounds with a similar mode of acti
on, a new set of inhibitors has been designed and synthesized which re
late to rotenone but lack the core B/C ring structure previously consi
dered of major significance. Although less active than rotenone, signi
ficant levels of inhibition have been found for several analogues.
