A change in the politics of national governments concerning informatio
n on radiation from nuclear power stations is proposed. It includes a
close cooperation with those citizens' initiatives, which have establi
shed an early warning system for radioactive contamination. Today the
whole population should be informed in detail how to behave in case of
a possible nuclear accident. This could avoid a likely panic with eno
rmous casualties in case of a major breakdown of a nuclear reactor in
the vicinity of a large town. Information on the size, the equipment,
and the scientific standards of the initiatives are given.
