Abstract
The mismatch of coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of fiber and m atrix in metal-matrix composites reinforced with ceramic fibers induce s high thermal stresses in the matrix. Elasto-plastic analyses-with di fferent degrees of simplification and modeling-show that an interface layer with a sufficiently high CTE can reduce the tensile hoop stress in the matrix substantially.
