C. Reichel et al., UNDIFFERENTIATED (EMBRYONAL) SARCOMA OF THE LIVER IN AN ADULT PATIENTWITH METASTASIS OF THE HEART AND BRAIN, The Clinical investigator, 72(3), 1994, pp. 209-212
A 26-year-old woman with a tumor of the left liver lobe was admitted t
o the hospital. After incomplete resection of the tumor and histologic
al diagnosis of an undifferentiated (embryonal) sarcoma of the liver a
combination chemotherapy with ifosfamide and epidoxorubicine was star
ted. 11 months later brain metastases were diagnosed. Routine ultrasou
nd examination of the heart disclosed a pericardial tumor infiltrating
the left atrium of the heart. After radiation therapy of the brain me
tastases the patient was treated with two cycles of high-dose ifosfami
de and epidoxorubicin. Two years after diagnosis the patient developed
signs of cardiac failure and died. Postmortem autopsy confirmed the l
ocal recurrence of the liver neoplasm and revealed its continuous spre
ad to the pericardium via the diaphragm and infiltration of the left a
trium.
