Abstract
A recent study in a medical long-term care facility (LTCF) population demonstrated evidence of psychologic adaptation in a predominantly dem ented population. We have also reported evidence of such adaptation wh ich lowered the risk of depression in an LTCF sample. The present stud y extends the adaptational variables for depression compares areas of agreement between the dementia and depression studies, reviews the ada ptational construct, and suggests clinical applications targeted to pr imary prevention of depression in this setting.
