Three benzil based, macrocyclic oxygen-, nitrogen-, and sulfur-contain
ing ligands, azacyclotetradeca-7,14-dithione-2,3,9,11-tetraene) ethano
l (L(1)), traphenyl-1,2,5,6,8,9,12,13-octaazacyclotetradeca- 7,14-dith

ne) ethanol (L(3)); a cyclic ligand, 6-diphenyl-4-oxo-3,4,5,6-tetrahyd
ro-2,3,5-triazine (L(5)) and two open chain ligands, benzilsemicarbazo
ne (L(6)) and benzilbisthiosemicarbazone (L(4)) are reported. These li
gands react with copper(II) chloride, nitrate and acetate. The complex
es obtained have been characterized on the basis of NMR, IR, electroni
c and mass spectral studies, conductance and analytical data. The stoi
chiometry and the spectroscopic data of the complexes indicate that th
e copper ions are coordinated by neutral ligands or by ligand anions f
ormed by loss ofprotons from the ligand. The molecular and crystal str
