The amorphous Ni-B ultrafine particles were prepared by using KBH4 to
reduce Ni2+ ion in ethanol solution, and two kinds of particles with t
he average diameter around 150 nm and 5 approximately 25nm respectivel
y were observed. The hydrogenation of 1, 3-cyclopentadiene were also i
nvestigated by using these particles, and a higher hydrogenation activ
ity and selectivity of cyclopentene were observed. As a comparation, R
aney Ni and Pd/C catalysts were also used to catalyze the same reation
. The results show that amorphous Ni-B ultrafine particles display to
have a higher catalytic hydrogenation ability and can be used in the r
eaction of hydrogenation instead of Raney Ni and Pd/C catalysts.
