Aj. Weatherspoon et al., ALCOHOL-CONSUMPTION AND USE NORMS AMONG CHINESE-AMERICANS AND KOREAN-AMERICANS, Journal of studies on alcohol, 55(2), 1994, pp. 203-206
Homeland (Taiwan) Chinese are very low in alcohol consumption, while h
omeland Koreans are very high in alcohol consumption. Neither Chinese
Americans nor Korean Americans constitute a large portion of the resid
ents of Hawaii, but across four surveys, data were obtained from 212 C
hinese-American and 72 Korean-American college students or students' p
arents. Persons from these groups do not differ greatly. Korean Americ
ans are slightly higher in reported alcohol use and in judgments of th
e nature of normal alcohol use. The two groups do not differ in their
judgments of the nature of problem alcohol use.
