Jp. Diazalarcon et al., DETERMINATION OF SELENIUM FRESH FISH FROM SOUTHEASTERN SPAIN FOR CALCULATION OF DAILY DIETARY-INTAKE, Journal of agricultural and food chemistry, 42(2), 1994, pp. 334-337
Hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry was used to determin
e the total Se content in the edible. muscular tissue of the 31 most c
ommon species of fresh fish from the Mediterranean area of Motril (sou
theastern Spain). The samples were digested in nitric acid. The Se6+ i
n the digested solutions was prereduced to Se4+ by exothermic reaction
in HCl solution. Determination of selenium was carried out by the sta
ndard addition method; Results for standard reference material (BCR mu
ssel tissue) agreed closely with the certified values. Detection limit
was 2.83 ng. Reproducibility expressed as relative standard deviation
ranged from 4.00% to 4.71% A summary of results is reported ranging f
rom 0.150 to 2.014 mu g/g for 31 species of fish. Considering the aver
age daily individual consumption of fresh fish in Andalusia (southern
Spain), the daily dietary intake of Se supplied by this source is 15.7
8 mu g/day for an adult.
