L. Hugard et al., EMERGENCE OF AN UNUSUAL SEROTYPE - ABOUT 25 SALMONELLA-KENTUCKY IN HOPITAL-PRINCIPAL-OF-DAKAR, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 24(1), 1994, pp. 71-74
The laboratory of Biology of Hopital Principal reports the unusual eme
rgence of S. kentucky in neonatologics and pediatrics. 25 cases were f
ound for 9 months. The infants were 0 to 2.5 years old. The clinical f
eatures were various and often serious : lethal evolution occurred in
6 cases, mong them 2 cases were directly the consequence of Salmonella
infection. The bacteriologic identification did not make any problems
and the complete serotypy was given to do at Institut Pasteur of Daka
r. Antibioresistance profiles were worrying with presence of high-leve
l penicillinase : extension to 1st generation cephalosporins was found
in 16 cases and extension to 3rd generation cephalosporins was found
in 16 cases and extension to 3rd generation cephalosporins in 5 cases.
