Abstract
The reaction between Np(VI) and N-methylkydroxylamine in HNO3 solution has a short induction period after which the rate obeys the equation -d[Np(VI)]/dt = k[Np(VI)][CH3NH2OH+]0.7/[H+]0.4, where k = 35.0 +/- 0. 9 liter0.3/mole0.3.min at 25-degrees-C and mu = 2. The activation ener gy is 63.6+/-3.0 kJ/mole. A mechanism explaining the autocatalytic nat ure of the start of the reaction is discussed.
