Reduction of Pu(IV) by N,N-diethylhydroxylamine in HNO3 solution obeys
equation 2Pu4+ + (C2H5)2. NHOH+ + H2O = 2Pu3+ + C2H5NO + C2H5OH + 3H. The reaction mechanism includes two successive slow steps Pu4+ + (C2
H5)2NHOH+ reversible Pu3+ + (C2H5)2NO + 2H+ and pu4+ + (C2H5)2NO --> P
u3+ + C2H5N(O)C2H4 + H+. The first step is reversible: the second, irr
eversible. The kinetic expressions and rate constants of these steps a
nd data for the overall reaction are found.
