Abstract
Stirring mixtures of beta-hydroxynitriles with manganese dioxide, depo sited onto silica gel for a few days at room temperature resulted in t he formation of the corresponding amides in fair to good yields. The u nprecedented conversion of 3-hydroxyglutarodinitrile into the correspo nding monoamide has been performed by this methodology.
