A theoretical analysis is presented for the behaviour after buckling o
f intermediately stiffened plates loaded in compression. The loaded an
d unloaded edges are simply supported but the unloaded edges are free
to wave in the plane of the plates. A semi-energy method of analysis,
based on the von Karman's compatibility equation and the principle of
minimum total potential energy, is used. The results are presented gra
phically for a range of plate aspect ratios and stiffener sizes and co
mparison is made with experimental results.
