C. Seymour et al., ISOLATION OF HELICOBACTER STRAINS FROM WILD BIRD AND SWINE FECES, Applied and environmental microbiology, 60(3), 1994, pp. 1025-1028
We report the first isolations of Helicobacter strains from wild birds
and swine. Genus-specific oligonueleotide probes identified nine Cape
Cod isolates from gull, tern, house sparrow, and pig feces as Helicob
acter spp. and not Campylobacter spp. Antibiotic sensitivity and ureas
e tests distinguished three phenotypes. Strains examined rapidly lost
culturability under simulated natural conditions.
