Abstract
A synthesis of 2-hydroxymethyl-3,5-dimethyl-4-methoxypyridine, a key i ntermediate for the preparation of gastric acid inhibiting compound om eprazole, is described. The procedure consists of preparation of pyron e, pyridone and pyridine derivatives sequentially.
