LOCAL WAVES ON A PULSATING ELLIPSOID OF R EVOLUTION

The paper deals with interaction of global oscillations of considerabl y large amplitude and local waves having a length much smaller than ch aracteristic dimensions of the system. The large-scale oscillations ar e simulated by non-linear pulsations of a homogeneous spheroid along i ts axis of rotation. As for local deformations, we confine ourselves t o consideration of the high-order sectorial harmonics. This means thal the narrow zone along the equator of the figure is being involved int o wave equation. The given model illustrates a transition of one mode of oscillations into another one. Under certain conditions such transf ormations may turn out to be irreversible.
