In the present study we emphasize the importance and usefulness of the
Game Theory in the empirical verification of the two factors that are
involved in Type-A Behaviour Pattern (TABP) such as competitiveness a
nd hostility. Using two classical game plays (Prisoner's Dilemma and C
hiken Game), we try to establish the possible differences in cooperati
ve elections between Type A subjects (competitive and hostile) and Typ
e B. We also have studied in which way the expectancies related to pos
sible opponent behaviour may influence. Results show that, at a genera
l level and taking into account the factors studyed, the comptitivenes
s is the only component of TABP that can be considered as a valid pred
ictor in respect to the degree of comptitiveness that subjects will de
velop in thesse games.
