Abstract
An experimental evaluation of the PERSPEC multifraction aerosol sample r was carried out. The pattern in which particles of different sizes d eposit on the filter was determined using fluorescent monodisperse par ticles, and compared with theoretical predictions. The experimental da ta were used to devise a method for subdividing the filter into respir able, thoracic and inhalable aerosol fractions. The bias in aerosol co ncentrations assessed using this method was estimated for a range of s ize distributions, and found to be generally very low.
