A kinetic study on the catalytic effect of iodide on the chlorpromazin
e-H2O2 reaction is described. The reaction was followed spectrophotome
trically by measuring the absorbance at 525 nm, absorption maximum of
oxidation product of chlorpromazine. Under selected experimental condi
tions (2 x 10(-2) M chlorpromazine, 2 M H3PO4, 0,3 M H2O2 and 20 +/- 0
,1-degrees-C) iodide is determined between 13-254 ng mL-1. The reactio
n has been applied to the determination of chlorpromazine between 3,6-
156 mug mL-1 (2 M H3PO4, 0,3 M H2O2. 20 +/-0,1-degrees-C, 2.5 mug mL-1
of I-). The influence of foreign oins was studied. The procedure was
applied to the determination of iodide in iodinated salts and iodide o
r chlorpromazine in pharmaceuticals.
