Bm. Chittapur et al., PERFORMANCE OF GRAIN MAIZE (ZEA-MAYS) AND FORAGE CEREAL INTERCROPPINGON BLACK SOILS UNDER RAIN-FED CONDITION, Indian Journal of Agronomy, 38(4), 1993, pp. 523-526
A field experiment was conducted during the rainy seasons of 1990 and
1991 to study the performance of maize (Zea mays L.) + forage cereal i
ntercropping on black clay-loam soil under rainfed condition. Maize-gr
ain yield decreased due to intercropping. The reduction in yield was o
f higher magnitude with 1 : 2 proportion with forage maize intercrop.
Yield components followed the similar trend. Intercrop forage yields w
ere higher with 1 : 2 proportion. Net returns were higher under interc
ropping of maize + pearl millet [Penrisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. emend.
Stuntz].
