The mass spectra of the [1]titanocenophanes Me2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, MeHSi(C
5H4)2TiCl2, Et2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, Me2Si(C5H4)(C5H3Me)TiCl2, and Me2SiC5H3
Me)2TiCl2 have been, measured and discussed. The molecular ions decomp
ose essentially through the elimination of HCI and Cl forming intense
[M-HCl]+, [M-2HCl]+, and [M-Cl]+ ions. The fragment [TiC10H8]+ corresp
onding to the titanocene system is present in each spectrum and moreov
er in two cases constitutes the most abundant ion. This suggests that
the titanocene system is particularly stable.
