Reaction of 2,3,4,5-tetra-O-acetylgalactaric acid bis 1,6-[methylthio
or benzylthio (thiocarbonyl)]hydrazides 1, 2 with different bifunction
al amines [piperazine (PPZ), tetraethylethylenediamine (TEED), tetrame
thylethylenediamine (TMED), and tetramethylpropanediamine (TMPD)] in m
ethanol, gave the corresponding monomeric, and polymeric saccharide am
ine salts according to saccharide bishydrazide : diamine ratioes. The
elucidation of structures for the prepared compounds is discussed and
mechanistic pathways for their formation are proposed.
