The Dirac-Fock-Slater (DFS) model is described for a substance with gi
ven temperature and density. On the basis of this model, a method of c
omputing the absorption coefficients of photons in plasma is proposed.
For computation of photon absorption coefficients, and Rosseland and
Planck lengths in a wide range of temperatures and densities (T congru
ent-to 1 - 10(4) eV, rho congruent-to 10(-2) - 10(2) g/cm3), a FOTON p
rogram is elaborated. The absorption coefficients for plasmas of air,
Al, Fe, and Au are calculated. Some results obtained within the DFS mo
del are compared with those obtained using other techniques and by exp
eriment.
