The effect of a proton beam, with proton energy of about 10 MeV, durat
ion of 100 ns, and intensity of 5 - 10 GW/cm2, exerted on an aluminum
target 1 mm thick is studied by the method of mathematical simulation
in two-dimensional formulation. The evolution of a stressed state and
die formation of the destruction zone and temperature fields for diffe
rent values of beam focusings are investigated. The spallation strengt
h of aluminum under given loading conditions is determined.
