Abstract
In cats one to three days of age the liver content of iron was 512 +/- 231, that of copper 135 +/- 92, zinc 163 +/- 60 and of manganese 7.4 +/- 1.9 mug/g dry matter. At birth there are no stores of these trace elements. As the iron content in tissues of new born kittens and that in milk is low an anaemia can develop. The concentrations of iron, cop per, zinc and manganese in different tissues of cats aged 1 to 3 day 6 weeks and 12 months are described.
