Id. Fanning et al., ABUNDANCE AND SPATIAL-DISTRIBUTION OF MOSQUITOS AT LAKE BULLAWARRA, QUEENSLAND (DIPTERA, CULICIDAE), Journal of the Australian Entomological Society, 33, 1994, pp. 17-23
During 1976-78, seven trips were made to Lake Bullawarra and 29,118 mo
squitoes comprising 19 species were collected. Vertical and horizontal
distribution of mosquitoes was investigated using chicken baited trap
s at three different heights (0, 6 and 12 m) and three horizontal dist
ances from shore (0, 31 and 57 m). Culex quinquefasciatus was the most
localised species, being captured at ground level and close to the la
ke shore. Culex annulirostris, Anopheles annulipes s.l. and Aedes eids
voldensis were also more common close to the ground, but no significan
t differences in the distribution of these species were found away fro
m the lake edge. These species were also the most common in the majori
ty of the other collections.
